Watchdog warns of data theft risks during Black Friday sales

MOSCOW, Nov 23 (PRIME) -- The Russian communications service warned on Friday of fraudulent websites that illegally collect personal data of users during Black Friday sales.

The watchdog means so-called landing pages, whose aim is to gather user contact data, including names, surnames, phone numbers, addresses, banking information and the like to use them as databases for spammers.

“The communications service’s specialists for the protection of rights of personal data’s subjects point to the danger of such pages since chances are high that personal user data will be later exploited for the purposes different from those claimed when collected,” the statement read.

Fraudsters use logos of the popular brands taking part in the sellout campaign to attract people’s attention.
